With Initial’s slender, compact DVD-5820 portable DVD player you can watch your DVD movies, listen to your favorite MP3 CDs, and even watch slideshows of your digital photography–all while you’re in your home or out and about. The DVD-5820 features an 5.8-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) thin-film-resistor LCD, and compatibility with JPEG and Kodak Picture CDs, as well as HDCD-encoded CDs. Commercial CDs encoded with High-Definition Compatible Digital technology number in the thousands and play on any CD or DVD player, but players with HDCD decoding chips derive an extra measure of low-level resolution from these discs. The player also offers built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player’s digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-RCA coaxial digital-audio cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The player is firmware upgradeable to accommodate future formats, and it comes with built-in anti-shock technology to help maintain smooth playback when you’re on the go. A composite-video output simplifies hookup with most TVs. Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, 2x and 4x zoom, screen saver/power-saving function, CD programming, parental locking, and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). Supplied accessories include an AC adapter, rechargeable battery, user’s manual, and a remote control. Headphones are not included.
Enjoy movies and CDs wherever you go with this compact portable DVD player. Watch DVDs on a full 5.8” LCD screen, or listen to CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CDs. It features built-in stereo speakers so you can share your favorite music with others, and a headphone jack for private listening. This versatile device comes complete with a remote and a rechargeable lithium battery. Who says you can’t take it with you?

Initial 5820
My wife bought the Initial 5820
for me as a Christmas present three years ago. With heavy use it still is performing like new.

Great Unit, poor sound
I’m really enjoying this unit. The only drawback is the sound from the built-in speakers is so poor I can only bear to listen to it using headphones.

Great Price/Value – Short Lifespan
I picked up the 5820 primarily becuase of the price – and I needed a portable for a cross-country flight with two kids.

Good product – poor customer service
I’ve owned this unit for about 2 years. The only problem I’ve had is the power receptacle came loose.

Outstanding value for the money
We took a chance and bought this product late 2001. We never heard of the company but decided to take a chance.

It might be nice for a week or two, but…
I hate to say it, but the people who have given this item good reviews haven’t owned the player long enough.

Great for the price!
I bought this product at Walmart over a year ago and it has worked beautifully ever since. Boy, have the portable DVDs come down in price since then!

A good player for a good price
This player is very durable, very loud, very cool altogether. There are many good points to this player, and I’m glad I own it.

The glitch
When in play this product just stops playing (still picture) if you tap on the disc cover it will restart the DVD but not in the same place.

Didja know?
My Initial dvd player has worked perfectly from day 1. Here are a couple of undocumented secrets: 1) It will play CD+G (Karaoke) CDs, with full display of words, etc.
